Photographing into the sun is always tough, luckily I was able to position myself low enough to block the sun and capture more than a silhouette of this aircraft. The iconic MiG-21 was the first successful Soviet aircraft combining fighter and interceptor characteristics in a single aircraft. The MiG-21F-13 entered service in 1960, as a single-seat short-range day-fighter and was the first MiG-21 model to be produced in large numbers. Over the next 30 years 6,000 were built, many under license in a number of countries. The MiG-21F-13 was built in China as the Chengdu J-7 as well as in Czechoslovakia as the Aero S-106, though the S-106 designation was not used for long; subsequently, the Czech-built units were referred to as “MiG-21F-13” just like the Soviet-built aircraft. This one still wears the colors of the former Czechoslovakian Air Force.
